Deutsche Messe is launching a new, digital meeting place for the micro-mobility industry with the micromobility expo online conference on 27 and 28 August.

Hanover, August 2020 – Cities worth living in rely on decarbonisation, alternative drives and an intelligent and efficient allocation of urban space. Micro-mobility will be an important component of future-oriented, sustainable and socially compatible mobility concepts. "However, micromobility can only become a model for success if all players in urban, regional and transport planning are involved at an early stage and appropriate measures are implemented to increase road safety, guarantee the safety of users and harmonise interaction with other means of transport," says Sabine Flores, authorised signatory of the Institute for Future Studies and Technology Assessment (IZT), Berlin. To support the necessary exchange despite the corona crisis, the micromobility expo online conference on 27 and 28 August will bring together experts from industry and politics. More than 40 international experts will shed light on holistic approaches to solutions and provide impulses for the necessary traffic turnaround in cities. Andreas Scheuer, Federal Minister of Transport and Digital Infrastructure, has assumed patronage of the event.

Programme on Thursday, 27 August 2020, 10.30 to 15.45

The program will be opened on Thursday, 27 August 2020 at 10.30 a.m. by Transport Minister Andreas Scheuer and Dr. Jochen Köckler, Member of the Board of Management of Deutsche Messe AG, Hannover. The programmme will continue with a panel discussion on the topic of mobility of the future. Prof. Dr. Stephan Rammler, Scientific Director, Institute for Future Studies and Technology Assessment, will speak with other guests about micro-mobility and climate protection, mobility culture and the legal framework. The panel will also discuss the social challenges in times of the Corona crisis.

In the following session on the topic of multi- and intermodality, Dr. Susanne Leifheit, External Relations & Corporate Responsibility Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles and Dr. Christoph Haferburg, Deputy Professor of Social and Economic Geography / Socio-Economics of the Region at the University of Hamburg will exchange views with other experts on integrative solutions and systems beyond the first and last mile - from infrastructure and public transport to commuter traffic and sharing systems.

In the International Mobility Roundtable, experts from Spain, the Netherlands, Denmark, the USA and Germany will discuss the opportunities and challenges for an urban Europe, including Christian Lind, CEO Bikeep, USA, Dr. Susanne Zapreva, CEO Stadtwerke Hannover AG (enercity) and Marti Jofre, Factual Barcelona. The Roundtable will be held in English.

The programme will conclude with the MicroCity Talk. Moderator Jan Egge Sedelies summarises the results of the first day of the conference in a discussion with Raimund Nowak, Managing Director of the Metropolitan Region Hannover Braunschweig Göttingen Wolfsburg.

Programme on Friday, 28 August 2020, 10.30 to 16.30

The programme on the second day will be introduced by moderator Jan Egge Sedelies and his discussion partners Lars Zemke, Chairman of the Electrive Empire Bundesverband Elektrokleinstfahrzeuge e.V. (Federal Association of Electric Miniature Vehicles) and Sebastian Hofer, Managing Director of freifahrt - mobility innovation as part of the MicroCity Talk. Together, they will sum up the first day of the conference, focusing in particular on the topic of mobility of the future.

The still unknown side of micro-mobility, applications and innovations are the focus of the Urban Logistics Talk. What concepts are there for developing urban areas and rural regions? Which smart technologies are used there and what future perspectives do they open up? Kolin Schunk, Lufthansa Innovation Hub, Thomas Ludewig, Project Manager Cargo E-Bike Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles, Martin Schmidt, Cycle Logistics Association, Carsten Hansen, German Parcel and Express Association, Sven Kindervater, citkar and Thorsten Bullerdiek, Association of Towns and Municipalities of Lower Saxony, will discuss opportunities and challenges in the fields of urban-rural, green logistics and robotics. The experts are looking forward to questions and suggestions from the audience.

The following session Micro-mobility and Urban Development: Mobile Quality of Life is concerned with developments in mobility planning & transport infrastructure and urban mobility concepts & neighbourhood development. Where are we now, where does the journey have to go? What opportunities do we have to seize and what challenges do we have to overcome? Hermann Blümel, Energiewende im Verkehr Institut für Klimaschutz, Lisa Ruhrort, MOveMe - Social Science Research Center Berlin (WZB) and Florian Walberg, Walberg Urban Electrics GmbH, among others, will discuss these issues.

Safety in road and traffic areas is the central topic of the Safety & Security round table, on which Dr. Tina Gehlert, Head of Traffic Behaviour, German Insurance Association, Stefan Gerwens, Head of Traffic ADAC, Dr. Michael Weyde, European Association for Accident Research and Accident Analysis and other experts will meet. They will discuss traffic and driving safety and insurance.

Start-up companies will present themselves at the Micromobility made in Hannover format. The pitch will be moderated by Gernot Hagemann, Project Manager Industry Development, hannoverimpuls.

The second day of the conference will close with the HAZ-Forum. The expert forum of the local newspaper Hannoversche Allgemeine Zeitung will focus on the topic "Traffic turnaround: What can citizens expect?”

The online forum offers both experts and all interested parties the opportunity to find out about innovations, new mobility concepts and possible solutions despite the corona pandemic. You can log in via the webpage or via app on your smartphone and then join the discussion rounds live. Participation in the conference is free of charge.

The digital conference is jointly organised by Deutsche Messe Hannover, the Institute for Future Studies and Technology Assessment (IZT), Berlin and the Metropolitan Region Hannover Göttingen Braunschweig and Wolfsburg.
