In celebration of International Women’s Day, Hindustan Zinc, a Vedanta Group company, unveils a captivating brand film showcasing the remarkable journey of
India's first All Women Underground Mine Rescue Team. In alignment with UN’s theme for this year, “Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress
", the film features seven dynamic women leaders who are breaking stereotypes in the male-dominated mining industry.
Hindustan Zinc boasts a workforce of over 600 women employees, including more than 200 women engineers, who are playing pivotal roles in various capacities. With 21.8% percent of women in executive positions and 24% in the Executive Committee, the company is committed to foster an inclusive and diverse work environment. The launch of the first all-women underground mine rescue team creates next-generation safety leaders while progressing on a path of #TransformingTheWorkplace.
This first-of-its-kind rescue team in India has undergone preliminary tests that required members to compete in basic Mine Emergency situations. Techniques to tackle or deal in the case of surface/underground mine emergency scenarios, first aid, technician tests, theory exams, self-rescuers, fire types and extinguishing methods, mine gases, and emergency response were some of the key areas covered in the training session. The brand film captures the many ways in which these women are unearthing their power and redefining what is possible. The women rescue team is more than their gender; they are a movement and when it comes to safety, they can achieve what one cannot even imagine.
Hindustan Zinc’s commitment to gender diversity extends beyond recruitment, with a focus on fostering a supportive environment for female employees to thrive in blue-collar roles—a space still relatively uncommon for women. The core idea is to drive positive change in the mining industry and build
a more diverse, inclusive & progressive workplace.
